Simone Biles Shares Thoughts on Competing in the 2028 Olympics, Sparking Mixed Reactions

Simone Biles Shares Her Thoughts on Competing in the 2028 Olympics

In an intriguing revelation, Simone Biles recently addressed the possibility of her participating in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. As we look back at 2024, it’s undeniable that Biles was one of the standout athletes, capturing the spotlight with her remarkable performances. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, she added to her illustrious legacy by winning one silver and three gold medals, reaffirming her status as the most decorated gymnast in history.

Now, with her place in history firmly established, Biles hinted that the Paris Games might mark the conclusion of her Olympic journey. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, after being honored as the outlet’s Sportsperson of the Year, the 27-year-old gymnastics icon expressed her intent to take a deserved break from the sport and shared that she currently has no plans to return for the Los Angeles Olympics.

When asked what it would take for her to come back, Biles candidly stated, “Life and death,” underscoring the gravity of the situation. She elaborated on her perspective: “I’ve achieved so much that there’s hardly anything left to prove. It wouldn’t be wise to return just to chase more accolades when I’ve already accomplished so much.”

Biles reflected on the potential backlash from fans and critics should she decide to return, mentioning, “Going back might seem greedy, and those are the risks that come with such a decision. Ultimately, it’s a personal choice.”

In addition to her athletic triumphs, Biles has also reached significant milestones in her personal life, including her marriage to NFL player Jonathan Owens in 2023. This development prompted her to consider the potential sacrifices involved in returning to Olympic competition. “What would I have to give up if I returned?” she pondered. “When I was younger, it was about high school dances and college. Now, it’s about starting a family and balancing time with my husband. What truly matters?”

Biles’ comeback at the 2024 Olympics came after she had bravely stepped back from competition at the Tokyo 2020 Games due to mental health concerns, a decision that sent shockwaves through the gymnastics community. Despite the success of her return in 2024, she shared that she is not yet ready to fully acknowledge her legacy as a sporting icon.

“I don’t think the reality of my accomplishments has hit me yet,” she admitted. “I hear about it, and I see glimpses of it, but the full impact hasn’t settled in.” She continued, “Maybe it will be clearer in a few years when I look back and think, Wow, she really was exceptional.”

As Biles contemplates her future, fans are left wondering if she will eventually change her mind about participating in one final Olympic Games, especially with the event taking place on home soil. Only time will reveal her decision.
