Steve Mensch, President of Tyler Perry Studios, Dies at 62 in Florida Plane Crash

Steve Mensch, the influential President of Tyler Perry Studios, tragically passed away at the age of 62 following a single-seater plane crash in Florida. The unfortunate incident occurred on December 6, when local Highway Patrol Troopers responded to the scene on West White Dogwood Drive, near the intersection of US 98 and US 19 in Homosassa. Investigations into the cause of the crash are currently underway.

 

Mensch, who had been at the helm of Tyler Perry Studios since 2016, played a pivotal role in the operational management of the expansive 300-acre studio located in Atlanta. Under his leadership, the studio became widely recognized for producing the beloved Madea film series, which includes titles such as Madea’s Big Happy Family, Madea Goes to Jail, A Madea Homecoming, A Madea Christmas, and Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Additionally, the studio was the backdrop for numerous movies and television shows, including Acrimony, A Fall from Grace, Civil War, All the Queen’s Men, and Ruthless.

 

Prior to his impactful tenure at Tyler Perry Studios, Mensch served as the president of Third Rail Studios, where he oversaw operations, sales, technology design, staffing, and budgeting for the facility. He was also an active member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Film, Music & Digital Entertainment and had chaired the Georgia Screen Entertainment Coalition. Mensch was widely regarded as a prominent figure in the Georgia business landscape.

 

In the wake of his untimely death, the studio’s team expressed their profound sorrow, stating they were “completely devastated” by the loss. Mensch is survived by his wife and three children, who now face the challenge of navigating life without him. His legacy within the entertainment community is significant, and his contributions will be remembered by colleagues and fans alike.
