Sue Cleaver has taken to Instagram to share the devastating news of her beloved dog George’s passing, describing the moment as heartbreaking. The talented actress, known for her role on Coronation Street, posted a touching photo of George, whom she lovingly referred to as her “best friend.”
In her emotional Instagram post, Cleaver wrote, “We have just had to say goodbye to our best friend gorgeous George Paws. Love them hard and let them go when they tell you it’s time. RIP Georgy.” The heartfelt tribute prompted an outpouring of support from her celebrity friends and followers alike. Sally Carman expressed her condolences, writing, “I’m so sorry Sue,” while Julia Goulding added, “No! Sue, I’m so so sorry my love. Gorgeous George Paws, such a beautiful happy dog. You gave him such a wonderful life. Sending love.”
Fans of Sue also joined in, with one commenting, “So sorry to hear this Sue. We loved hearing all about gorgeous George. Sending love.” Another fan shared similar sentiments, stating, “He was such a lovely boy, I’m so sorry!”
Reflecting on George’s lively spirit, Sue recalled that last year, due to his mischievous behavior, he was no longer allowed on the Coronation Street set. “He came in once. He came into the Grimshaws’ and he pooed in the Grimshaws. That’s what he thought of it. He’s not been back since,” she explained with a laugh. She often referred to George as “the most spoiled dog in the world.”
Sue adopted George from a shelter in 2014. At the time, she recalled, “My friend has a boarding kennels, and she also takes in dogs who are about to be put down. Poor George was on his last days when she took him in, he was skin and bones, and had not been looked after at all.” What started as a fostering arrangement quickly turned into a permanent home, as Sue realized they were the loving family George had been searching for.
As fans and friends rally around Sue during this difficult time, the memory of George, with his playful spirit and loving nature, will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of many.
