RuPaul’s Drag Race sensation Tayce has been officially announced as one of the stars for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, generating buzz among fans. As the countdown to the festive event approaches, the excitement in the air is palpable, with Tayce being unveiled as the second contestant during a recent episode of It Takes Two.
Hailing from Wales, Tayce is recognized for her remarkable stint on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 2, where she earned the nickname the Naomi Campbell of Drag, thanks to her runway modeling prowess and charismatic presence as a radio presenter. During her appearance on It Takes Two alongside Fleur East, Tayce humorously declared that the formidable Craig Revel Horwood might just be scarier than RuPaul himself. Embracing the holiday spirit, she playfully suggested that she would take on the role of the nutcracker, with Craig as her ‘tough nut to crack.’
Expressing her enthusiasm about joining the Christmas special, Tayce said, “I cannot wait to sleigh on the Strictly Ballroom floor. My partner and I are going to dance for our lives! It’s an incredible honour for me to be the first Drag artist to participate in Strictly Come Dancing, and I truly hope to make my Drag Race and Welsh fans proud.” Her eagerness was unmistakable as she added, “Sign me up for all the glitz, glam, and discoballs.”
In another exciting reveal, Tayce will be paired with none other than Kai Widdrington, a past champion of the Strictly Christmas special, having won in 2022 with Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell. This pairing promises a dynamic performance, particularly given Tayce’s energetic stage presence.
Tayce is continuing a trend of RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni gracing the Strictly dance floor. Michelle Visage previously competed in 2019, where she was partnered with Giovanni Pernice, ultimately finishing in eighth place.
The upcoming Christmas special will feature six couples performing festive routines, vying for the attention of judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and head judge Shirley Ballas. Instead of the iconic glitterball, contestants will compete for a star-shaped trophy, adding to the unique holiday cheer.
As the anticipation builds, BBC has announced that more contestants for the Christmas special will be revealed on It Takes Two in the coming weeks. Viewers can catch the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, on Christmas Day.
