Tom Holland, 28, Shares Moment He Realized He Had a Drinking Problem and Is Now Sober

Tom Holland Opens Up About His Journey to Sobriety

Tom Holland, the star of the blockbuster Spider-Man films, has taken a bold step into sobriety after confronting his struggles with alcohol. At only 28 years old, the British actor has shared the pivotal moment that made him realize he was grappling with a drinking issue.

During a poker night with his older brother, Holland experienced an awakening when he felt the urge to drink despite initially planning to abstain. His brother’s concern about this newfound reliance on alcohol prompted Holland to reflect on his habits. He recounted a significant moment when he asked his brother to take him home because he wanted to drink—an incident that served as a wake-up call for both of them.

Holland admitted to having a routine of getting drunk every Friday after work, which often led to severe hangovers the following day. He explained, “Every Friday night was a write-off: Let’s get drunk and enjoy ourselves.” While he didn’t face any drastic situations due to his drinking, the accumulation of hangovers and regrets led him to realize something had to change.

In January 2022, Holland decided to temporarily cut out alcohol for a month. However, after struggling to adhere to that goal, he ultimately chose to quit for good. He emphasized his strong will and determination, stating, “When I decide to do something, I really commit to it.” He leaned on support from family, friends, and colleagues—many of whom are also on their own journeys of sobriety.

This past Christmas, Holland celebrated with his girlfriend Zendaya and expressed excitement about the future, as he hopes to bring their families together for the holidays. Reflecting on past experiences away from home during the festive season, he recalled spending a lonely Christmas trapped in a hotel room after contracting COVID. This year, he is optimistic about creating joyful memories.

Holland and Zendaya, who have captured the public’s attention since their romance blossomed while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming, plan to unite their families for next year’s holiday celebrations. He shared that organizing the gathering has been a challenge, but the desire is there to bring both families together in the spirit of the season.

As Holland continues on his path of sobriety and personal growth, he’s looking forward to the future with hope and a renewed sense of purpose.
