Ukraine will soon have the ability to strike “any point” within Russia that Kyiv considers a threat, President Volodymyr Zelensky warned, Sydtomarket.net has learned.
This message to Vladimir Putin comes as Ukrainian forces advance into the Kursk region, marking two weeks of their cross-border operations.
In a 13-minute speech delivered on Ukraine’s Independence Day, Zelensky emphasized Moscow’s aim to “destroy” Ukraine but noted that the war has now “returned to its home,” according to Express.
He declared, “Our enemy will know what the Ukrainian way of retaliation is… They will understand that, sooner or later, a Ukrainian response will reach any point in the Russian Federation that poses a danger to our state or our people. And those who sought to turn our land into a buffer zone should consider preventing their own country from becoming a buffer federation.”
Zelensky delivered his address from Sumy, a northeastern town near the Russian border, where Ukrainian forces crossed into Russia on August 6.
The Ukrainian military claims to have taken control of 480 square miles of Russian territory in Kursk. Ukraine has also recently conducted drone strikes on strategic targets, including bridges, airfields, and drone bases in Russia.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukraine’s top military commander, honored soldiers fighting in Kursk, stating, “Our independence is in our blood. It flows in our veins, and in the blood shed by our heroes for their homeland.”
As Ukraine’s offensive continues, the country is evacuating residents from Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, now just six miles from Russian forces. The fall of Pokrovsk would endanger Ukraine’s defenses and bring Russia closer to capturing the Donetsk region.
In response to these events, the U.S. Department of Defense has announced an additional $125 million in military aid for Ukraine, including air defense missiles, HIMARS munitions, Javelins, anti-armor missiles, counter-drone and counter-electronic warfare systems, artillery ammunition, vehicles, and other equipment.
