Burning Man, held annually in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, is no stranger to fatalities. Last year, a man named Leon Reece from Truckee, California, was found unresponsive at the festival and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The festival is also infamous for its “orgy dome,” described as an “air-conditioned sex haven,” where around 5,000 people participate each year. Attendees are screened for sobriety and given rules for conduct before entering the space, which features mattresses lining a central walkway. One attendee described feeling comfortable once seeing others engage in the activities, making it easier to join in.
