Ryan Murphy Plans More ‘Monsters’ Episodes If Menendez Brothers Are Freed, Reveals Crime Recreation Details

Ryan Murphy Teases Additional ‘Monsters’ Episodes If Menendez Brothers Are Released

Ryan Murphy is contemplating the creation of new episodes for ‘Monsters’ on Netflix should Erik and Lyle Menendez be granted their freedom. The Menendez brothers, who have been serving life sentences for the tragic murder of their parents in 1989, have recently submitted ‘new evidence’ in their quest for re-sentencing, including a concerning letter from Erik detailing alleged abuse at the hands of their father.

Their case, which has captivated public attention once more thanks to the series, may hold potential ramifications for their future. Murphy expressed astonishment over the renewed interest in the brothers, stating, “Ian and I are in absolute amazement and shock that this has happened. When we were scripting the Menendez Story, no one was discussing the brothers. We never imagined a revival of interest.”

L.A. District Attorney George Gascón has made headlines by releasing a screenshot from a letter Erik penned to his cousin Andy Cano prior to the murders. In it, Erik disclosed his fears and described a harrowing environment at home. He wrote, “I’ve been trying to avoid dad. It’s still happening Andy but it’s worse for me now. I never know when it’s going to happen and it’s driving me crazy.”

Despite the renewed claims of abuse, journalist Alan Abrahamson dismissed the relevance of their allegations, contending that the brothers were not in immediate danger at the time of the tragic events.

Erik further conveyed to his cousin the terror he lived under, emphasizing his sense of dread. He expressed doubt about his ability to cope, stating, “I don’t know I’ll make it through this. I can handle it, Andy. I need to stop thinking about it.”

Should the courts respond favorably to their claims, Murphy indicated that the prospect of producing follow-up episodes has been a topic of discussion. “Everyone seems intrigued. I think there’s a real desire to understand how this story concludes because, frankly, it’s not finished yet,” Murphy remarked.

Viewers have praised the miniseries for its meticulous attention to detail, including the recreation of Erik Menendez’s tan Ford Escort GT, the vehicle the brothers used during the horrific events of that fateful night. Production designer Matthew Flood Ferguson shared insights about the challenges faced in replicating the car for filming, highlighting the effort involved in achieving authenticity.

As it stands, Murphy is poised to delve into the life of serial killer Ed Gein for the upcoming installment of the ‘Monsters’ series.

In a world where the Menendez brothers’ fate hangs in the balance, the unfolding narrative continues to engage both fans and critics alike.
