Joey King’s Top Pops Moment at Face of the Future Award Acceptance

In a delightful turn of events, Joey King experienced a light wardrobe mishap while on stage to accept the prestigious Face of the Future Award. The 25-year-old star was honored at the 2024 Women in Film (WIF) Honors Ceremony, which took place on October 24 at the iconic Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. As Joey bravely stood up from her table to receive the award, her shirtless blazer unexpectedly popped open. Quick on her feet, she held the jacket together until she reached the stage, where an usher stepped in to temporarily safety-pin her back into place.

Once at the podium, Joey laughed off the situation with a cheeky remark, singing out, “Wow. The perfect time for my shirt to pop open. And I’m not wearing a bra!”

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Joey paid homage to the remarkable women who shaped her life, including her mother Jamie, her grandmother Elaine, and her sisters Kelli and Hunter—who recently got engaged. “The women in my life are the only reason that I’m here today,” she expressed. “I couldn’t be named the Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future without their guidance.”

Her speech took a deeper turn, as she reflected on her personal journey as an actress, starting from a young age. Joey spoke candidly about her struggles with feelings of inadequacy despite her success, attributing it to a childhood marked by a fear of missing out. “I was always so focused on what wasn’t happening instead of what was, not realizing that I had so much to be grateful for,” she shared.

Joey described a pivotal shift in her mindset around the ages of 19 and 20, allowing her a newfound peace and gratitude for her accomplishments. She emphasized the importance of cheering others on rather than comparing oneself to peers, stating, “The process of self-acceptance is a gift that makes me a better actor, a better daughter, a better sister, a better wife, and a better friend.”

With a whimsical nod to her childhood, she recounted how, even as a little girl dressing in mismatched outfits, the encouragement from her family instilled in her a strong sense of self-confidence. Joey acknowledged the influential women in her industry, crediting them for teaching her to advocate for herself and navigate the challenges of showbiz.

“My sisters are my best friends, my grandmother inspired my creativity, and my mom fueled my ambition,” Joey highlighted. “I owe this honor to them. I’m incredibly appreciative of Women in Film and Max Mara for making women feel just how powerful we truly are.”

Joey’s warm remarks resonated deeply in the room, completing a memorable night celebrating her achievements and the strength of women in the industry.
