Jamie Borthwick dismisses Motsi Mabuse’s top spot prediction, avoiding pressure to win.

Strictly star Jamie Borthwick has responded to Motsi Mabuse’s assertion that he could be a top contender in this season’s competition. Despite the judge’s enthusiastic endorsement, Jamie remains cautious about the implications of such praise.

During his appearance on It Takes Two, Jamie was asked by host Janette Manrara about the pressure that comes with Motsi’s comments. “On the results show, Motsi said that you are becoming the one to beat in the competition. How much pressure has that put on you in training?” she inquired.

Jamie was quick to downplay the pressure, stating, “I certainly don’t know about that. From day one, I’ve made it clear that I won’t fall into any pressure traps. Everything can change so quickly. The competition in this show is fierce.”

He emphasized that he is focused on continuous improvement, not just for himself but also for his dance partner, Michelle Tsiakkas. “I’m not taking anything for granted. We’re just trying to get better every week,” he explained.

Despite his modesty, Jamie recently impressed viewers with a dazzling American Smooth inspired by the Addams Family, with his partner’s choreography receiving high praise from judge Shirley Ballas, who called it “pure genius.” This week, he and Michelle will be tackling a Samba to Faith by George Michael, and Jamie has expressed his enthusiasm for Latin dances, hinting that fans can expect a thrilling performance.

Fan reactions have been positive, with one viewer on X saying, “His Salsa was great and his hips are back, so I’m looking forward to this. Not sure about the song choice for a Samba though.” Another added, “Jamie is fantastic in Latin dances, but does Faith have enough samba elements?” A third commented, “Jamie and Michelle nailed it again on Saturday.”

As the competition heats up, it remains to be seen who will ultimately triumph in Strictly 2024.
