Judi Dench Shares Hilarious Quip About Her Parrot’s Language

Judi Dench, the acclaimed Oscar-winning actress, recently shared a light-hearted revelation about her pet parrot that has taken social media by storm. In an interview with the Sunday Times, the 89-year-old revealed that her African grey parrot, Sweetie, has a penchant for shockingly funny phrases, including one particular term of endearment, calling her a “slut.”

During the candid conversation, Dench disclosed, “We had a long chat just now. You shouldn’t ask what she says. She says: ‘You’re a slut,’ ‘you’re a slag.’” The actress playfully noted that Sweetie has even managed to pick up the name of Boris Johnson, the former British Prime Minister, although Dench insists, “She didn’t get that from me.” The parrot, it seems, has quite the sense of humor, and Dench encourages everyone to consider having a parrot or a myna bird, praising their incredible vocal talents.

As she prepares to celebrate her upcoming 90th birthday on December 9, Dench reflected on life and aging, expressing a bit of nervousness at the thought of turning 90. “I think you’re lucky to be 90,” she remarked, acknowledging the loss of close friends recently. “I’m able to at least get from A to B and walk about, and, golly, I’ve got a great deal to be grateful for.”

Dench, known for her roles in iconic films such as the James Bond series and Shakespeare in Love, has built an illustrious career spanning nearly seven decades. However, she has recently slowed down her professional endeavors due to her struggle with age-related macular degeneration, a condition she first disclosed in 2012. Despite this, Dench remains optimistic and resilient, humorously commenting on her challenges with hearing and vision as she ages.

In a previous appearance on The Graham Norton Show earlier this year, she discussed the difficulties of memorizing lines due to her deteriorating eyesight. “It has become impossible,” she explained, recalling her once photographic memory that allowed her to learn scripts quickly. “I could do the whole of Twelfth Night right now,” she added, reminiscing about her earlier days in theater.

As fans eagerly anticipate her next steps, Dench’s charm, wit, and undeniable talent continue to shine, proving that humor can be just as impactful as a well-delivered line on stage or screen.
