Keke Palmer Recalls Racist Remark from White ‘Scream Queens’ Costar

Keke Palmer has come forward with a troubling anecdote from her time on the Fox series “Scream Queens,” shedding light on an unsettling comment made by one of her white co-stars. In her upcoming memoir, “Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative,” set to be released on November 19, Keke reflects on various personal challenges, including her experiences with boundaries and self-worth.

In an exclusive excerpt obtained by the LA Times, she reveals a racially charged remark directed at her by an unnamed white actress, referred to as “Brenda” in the book. Keke recalls a moment on set when tensions flared between this actress and another colleague. In a bid to diffuse the situation, Keke suggested that everyone show mutual respect. The response from “Brenda” was shocking: “Keke, literally, just don’t. Who do you think you are? Martin fucking Luther King?”

Despite the weight of the comment, Keke emphasizes that she refused to let it define her. She addressed the situation candidly, stating, “It was such a weighted thing that she said, but I didn’t allow that weight to be projected on me, because I know who I am. I’m not no victim. That’s not my storyline, sweetie. I don’t care what her ass said. If I allow what she said to cripple me, then she would.”

The actress, who starred as Zayday Williams on the satirical slasher show, expressed her decision not to disclose the actress’s identity, as she wanted to focus on her own narrative rather than perpetuating any negativity.

As the release date approaches, Keke’s memoir promises to delve into her life experiences with authenticity, touching on themes that resonate beyond the entertainment industry.
