Matt LeBlanc Dismisses Retirement Rumors as Nonsense
Matt LeBlanc, the beloved Friends star, has firmly rejected rumors suggesting that he is stepping away from acting, labeling the claims as nonsensical. The 57-year-old actor has garnered attention for his recent reclusive behavior, especially in light of the passing of his dear friend and co-star, Matthew Perry, last October.
LeBlanc’s agent has publicly dismissed discussions about retirement, insisting they are unfounded. A source previously indicated that Perry’s death prompted LeBlanc to reflect on his own life decisions. The insider mentioned, “Losing such an important friend has caused Matt to reassess what really matters to him. He is focusing on personal interests that he values more now.”
While it is speculated that LeBlanc may need a compelling opportunity to return to acting, some reports suggest that he has quietly stepped back from the spotlight. Financially secure, he prefers to avoid public attention at this time.
One of his last major appearances was during the HBO Friends Reunion special in 2021, where he joined co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Perry. Following Perry’s tragic death, the cast expressed their grief, stating, “We are all utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just colleagues; we were family.”
In the wake of this loss, LeBlanc has been receiving support from Aniston and Cox, who are reportedly checking in on him frequently. A source disclosed that Aniston has been spending considerable time at LeBlanc’s home, cooking meals, watching movies, and providing companionship to help him cope. Both she and Cox have maintained regular contact to ensure he has support.
LeBlanc and Perry shared a close friendship that extended beyond their on-screen roles. They were neighbors in Pacific Palisades, particularly during the time leading up to Perry’s untimely passing.
Although LeBlanc is valued at an estimated $85 million and doesn’t need to work, his friends are worried that without a project to channel his energy into, the burden of grief might weigh heavily on him. Notably, this isn’t the first time LeBlanc’s absence from public life has raised concerns. He has previously described himself as more introverted than his iconic character, Joey Tribbiani.
Perry died at the age of 54 on October 28, after being found unresponsive in his hot tub. His death was ruled to be due to acute effects of ketamine. Following the incident, several individuals were arrested in connection with providing drugs to Perry, leading to his overdose.
As the entertainment world continues to mourn Perry’s passing, LeBlanc remains in the thoughts of many as he navigates this challenging period in his life.
