Tom Fletcher sent sister to private school after bullying experience

Sir Tom Jones, a prominent figure on The Voice UK, recently shared his feelings about being let go from the show. In a candid moment, he reflected on the circumstances surrounding his exit, revealing it was more shocking than he initially anticipated.

Sir Tom joined The Voice during its inaugural season in 2012, but after four successful years, the BBC made the surprising decision to replace him with Boy George for the show’s fifth season. In his autobiography, Over The Top and Back, he recounted how his agent received the news just a month before filming was set to begin, describing the experience as utterly bewildering.

“Being told I wouldn’t be returning was a shock, to say the least,” remarked the iconic singer. He expressed disappointment not just about being replaced but about the manner in which the decision was communicated. He described the BBC as a “cold place” to work, stating, “To say I was shocked is to put it mildly… but my shock wasn’t just that I was replaced; it was the indifference in the way it was handled.”

When Tom’s management sought clarification about the decision, the BBC claimed he was “out of contract.” While he recognized this as fact, he couldn’t help but feel disillusioned. “Sometimes you wonder if the organization is run by humans or a machine in the basement,” he mused, lamenting the attachment he had always felt towards the BBC.

Despite the initial disappointment, Tom Jones made a return to The Voice when it transitioned to ITV. He continues to coach alongside well-known personalities such as LeAnn Rimes, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, and Will.i.am in the current season.

Reflecting on the necessity of change within the show’s format, Tom commented on the importance of keeping things fresh for the audience. “If it were the same coaches all the time, it would get dull for viewers. It’s exciting to collaborate with a new group,” he noted during this year’s launch.

As the entertainment world eagerly watches, The Voice 2024 promises to deliver new thrills and surprises, airing on ITV1 and ITVX every Saturday evening.
